Initial assessment

  • Preparation of the pre-diagnosis: survey questionnaire

During the assessment

  • One-day visit to the site: collection of information, interviews with various site employees, visit to facilities

    • Energy management: balanced score card, energy accounting method.
    • Energy purchase
    • Manufacturing processes
    • Industrial ventilation
    • Motorised systems
    • Production, distribution and use of steam
    • Production, distribution and use of compressed air

Post-assessment

  • Analysis of data collected
  • Edition of a report including
    • an assessment of energy performance
    • identification of potential energy savings
    • an action plan (minor operations and more costly operations)
  • Option: Oral presentation of the results

Example of results

Grinding station

  • Action: Operate a ventilator with a frequency variator and on the appropriate settings
  • Estimation in energy savings: 40 to 50 % on the ventilator

Pelleting station/cooler

  • Action: Raise awareness of press operators as to the usefulness of optimising steam injection
  • Estimation in energy savings: 5 to 10 % on presses

Boiler room

  • Action: Calculate the cost of installation and operation of a dialyzer for treating the water
  • Estimation in energy savings: 7 to 9% on the boiler

Compressed air

  • Action: Implement a compressed air treatment system suited to user requirements
  • Estimation in energy savings: 15 to 20 % of electric consumption at the station

Unit operation energy audit

Requirements

  • Carry out a simplified energy audit for a single operation or production line (grinding, pelleting etc.)
  • Estimate energy savings and actions to be implemented to make savings
  • Compare energy performance of 2 similar applications

During the assessment

  • Creation of a campaign
  • Supply of the wattmeter-recorder for connection by factory personnel
  • Measurement of motor power demand on the basis of a protocol provided by Tecaliman
  • Analysis of the data collected via a questionnaire and the measurement campaign
  • Optional site visit for an in-depth inventory and to establish findings in detail

Post-assessment

  • Assessment of the station’s energy performance and comparison, if possible, to business sector standards
  • Assessment of the energy audit on the basis of
    • electric specific consumption (expressed in kWh / ton) on load and vacuum line
    • machine operating cycles (on load and vacuum line)
    • production rate
    • machine charging rate
    • machine demand profile, …
  • Creation of a report

Requirements

  • Measurement of power demand of compressors in service on the basis of a protocol sent provided by Tecaliman
  • Optional site visit for an in-depth inventory and to establish findings in detail

Post-assessment

  • Analysis of data collected
  • Assessment of the station’s energy performance and a comparison to business sector standards
  • Appraisal of the energy audit on the basis of station specific electric consumption
  • In the case of compressors with all-or-none-regulation, on the basis of:
    • rate of air leakage from the system
    • compressed air station energy yield (Wh/m3)
  • Identification of energy savings and recommendations for action
  • Creation of a report
